Debian compie 15 anni

Manifestazioni in tutto il mondo per festeggiare i 15 anni di Debian.

Sono passati 15 anni da quando Ian Murdock si mise in testa di realizzare una distribuzione veramente Free e comunitaria, il 16 agosto in tutto il mondo ci sono stati festeggiamenti per l’evento tramite il Debian Day 2008.
Da quel 16 Agosto 1993, quando Ian Murdock annunciò nel newsgroup comp.os.linux.development:

“This is just to announce the imminent completion of a brand-new Linux release, which I’m calling the Debian Linux Release. This is a release that I have put together basically from scratch; in other words, I didn’t simply make some changes to SLS and call it a new release. I was inspired to put together this release after running SLS and generally being dissatisfied with much of it, and after much altering of SLS I decided that it would be easier to start from scratch. The base system is now virtually complete (though I’m still looking around to make sure that I grabbed the most recent sources for everything), and I’d like to get some feedback before I add the “fancy” stuff. “

è passato un pò di tempo, negli anni Debian si è meritata un posto di primo piano tra le distribuzioni Linux e moltissime altre distribuzioni, trra cui l’ormai diffusissima Ubuntu, oggi sono basate su di essa ed APT il suo gestore di pacchette è forse il miglior gestore di pacchetti esistente.

Nel corso degli anni la distribuzione ha avuto come leader diversi nomi importanti, tra cui mi preme ricordare Bruce Perens.
In Italia i ragazzi di Debianizzati.Org hanno segnalato il Debian Day Italy 2008 che si è svolto a Finale Ligure e di cui sul sito del GOVONIS potrete vedere alcune foto.
